It’s no secret that universities in Wales are facing significant challenges—nor should it come as a shock to the government. The warning signs have been evident for years, with almost every Welsh university asking staff to leave voluntarily and some resorting to even more drastic measures. The recent announcement from Cardiff University that up to 400 jobs are at risk due to financial pressures, along with the University of Wales Trinity Saint David’s decision to close its Lampeter campus, serves as a stark reminder of the deepening crisis in the sector. Without urgent intervention, we will see more of these devastating cuts.
