“This announcement will help students make an informed decision about when and if they return to campuses in the new year. Universities should now work rapidly to communicate their plans for the staggered return of in-person learning to help students make the best choice for themselves.
“It is very welcome that asymptomatic testing will again be used to facilitate the safe return of students, but it is essential that testing is accessible to all students, and that capacity is able to deal with demand.
“Students whose in-person teaching starts later are being encouraged to delay their return to campus. It would only be fair for these students to be given rent rebates for the time they are not spending in their term-time accommodation.
"Those who stay at their term-time address over Christmas, and who return to campus before in-person teaching begins, must be able to access support to deal with the impacts of increased loneliness and isolation.
"It is welcome that the Welsh Government is continuing to work with students on the issues that affect them, and NUS Wales will work to ensure all parties feel safe about the return of students in the new year."
